I haven't watched a movie in a very long time, lol, and seeing this laid out like this poked my brain a little. I think part of it is the community aspect; movie producers and actors do not feel like my peers in the same way fandom people do. I want to encourage people to create, even if it's not really to my tastes, I want people to continue doing things. I don't know, it's probably a really old view of fandom that doesn't really work with how big and open fandom is now.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-20 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)I mean you can view it the most negative way possible, like "ha ha look at these silly people reading fic they think is bad ha ha they must like torturing themselves"... or look at it like "these people who like fanfic and are invested in finding and reading good fanfic are finding that they find most fanfic mediocre, but are still out here giving a whole lot of fanfics a fair chance to engage them and turn out to be good, because good fanfic is worth the trouble of looking for"
Nobody's out there seeking out 2/5 fanfic on purpose, and people are being polite by not commenting that they found the mediocre ones to be mediocre, and nobody's being harmed. However if someone wants all those people to leave comments about what they thought on every fanfic, it's probably not going to be positive for anyone.

Okay, that's extremely legit. I do agree that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all (unless a fic author actually requests concrit, which most do not, lol).
