That's probably the reason why. Zuko/Sokka has exploded in recent years for some reason.

I think because Ao3 is more slash friendly than FF.net is/was.

I've seen people say that it's also partly a result of people coming to the series via binging it on Netflix - the relationships read differently when you're seeing every new episode right away and watching the whole series in one go, rather than waiting between episodes and between seasons.

Probably. I remain baffled by the pairing. I guess they're both good looking guys? But beyond that? I guess I could see Zuko/Aang (still wouldn't ship it, but I'd understand it more) and I think the most popular slash ship involving Zuko last time I was in the fandom was Zuko/Jet I think.

No judgement, since people can do whatever they want (my AtLA ships also mostly ignore canon), I just wonder what caused this explosion. Maybe a popular fic that resonated with a big chunk of people? Or it's the enemies to lovers trope.

I don't know if this was just one old guard fan being grumpy or something, but I ran across a Tumblr post theorizing that the huge Zuko/Sokka explosion is largely because of Klance shippers looking for something to watch after VLD, went to A:TLA because of the showrunner overlap, and latched onto a ship they viewed as "analogous" to Klance (like, the jokey blue one + the grumpy red one). (This person seemed to be an older fan annoyed at the Klance-inflected characterization takes they saw in recent Zukka fic. That was their theory at least!)
