There's also the good old "show just the shadows" approach but that depends on the setting/ambient lighting.

That is true. And if I'm focusing on avoiding parts ..hmm well considering the nature of the setting. Magic proxies could work if I'm creative with them (vine tentacles).

Obv id have to be smart about how but it's an option. As is shadows and light
