The first year of dating my gf she tried to give me jewellery for my birthday, I appreciated the thought and even liked the design of the pendant she got me(it was a dragon), but it was just too bulky for what I liked wearing around my neck, I wore it on the day she got it for me but then gently told her a few days after that I am very picky about my jewellery and not to get me any without checking with me first.

These days if she wants to buy me some jewellery she asks if there's anything I have my eye on and goes to get exactly that.
