Hmm. Good point. I find it unattractive, too, though obviously I don't judge anyone for it. Most of my family and a couple of my friends toke, and that's their business. We all have things about us that some people find unattractive; it's fine. But I'm not reading fanfic to read about my faves doing things I find unattractive.

I seem to have set off a couple of people upthread by saying I find it jarring, unrelatable, and alienating when my fictional faves use pot. I definitely stand by those comments, but I think the fact that I find weed smoking unattractive is another facet of it. Like, if I toked and enjoyed it, then I probably wouldn't care that I find it unattractive (or simply would no longer find it unattractive) because I would have positive associations and experience with it to inform my perception of it. But there's none of that, for me. It's a turn-off in every way. It's a turn-off because my personal experiences with it have been deeply miserable. It's a turn-off because I associate it with something the people around me do that I get to sit and watch them do while being necessarily excluded. It's a turn-off because there is a very vocal contingent of people who treat it like a lifestyle and a form of enlightenment, which I find obnoxious. And it's a turn-off because I find it aesthetically unappealing.

Nayrt but yes! Exactly! I dont have any positive associations with it so there's nothing to counteract my perception of it as offputting, and I dont want to watch my blorbos, who I'm vicariously invested in because of course I am, they're blorbos, do it.

I wouldnt want to watch them try to pick someone up at a bar, either, because even though picking up someone at a bar is a pretty normal and common thing to do, I'm personally put off by it. I dont want to watch them plan for a baby or snog in public, either, because even though those things are normal, I personally find them offputting, and I dont want to watch my favorite characters do things I find offputting.
