In principle, I'm down with legalization and recreational pot usage. In real life, sometimes people who smoke pot make it their identity in a very tedious, annoying way. Low-key bragging about how much they smoke, how it affects them, etc. because they think it's a cool lifestyle thing. So instead of a person who smokes pot, now they're an annoying pothead type.

Sort of like how a woman can have a son without being a #boymom or a person can be sensitive without telling everyone they're an "empath".

I love good reaction videos, especially ones by someone who is knowledgable in the subject. Doctors reacting to medical things, etc. Currently watching a historian's channel. He does a lot of reactions to various historical lists and things from other youtube channels. And he always makes interesting comments that furthers my knowledge on the subject.

It really doesn't bother me when people just headcanon it for themselves. Like, wanting to relate to characters you like is completely understandable. What bugs me is when they start thinking their headcanon is canon and then judging others who have different headcanons or even calling them prejudiced for not accepting their headcanon.

Yup. Totally agree. I have no issues with it being legal. I'm cool with people who casually use it, I see it as no different than drinking. But addiction can be a thing, overuse can be a thing, and please don't make it your whole identity. When it interferes with the rest of your life, it is a problem.

And also, it shows up sometimes in fics about characters who just wouldn't use it. And that's annoying.

This took me in an unexpected direction, I love it!

I’m in a morbid group that tracks that sort of thing. We have set rules that it’s within 3 weeks unless two die in the same week then third must be within 7 days of the second. And we only count music stars (any genre but they’re expected to be a name recognizable to the average person even if they don’t listen to that kind of music), and A listers for tv and movies. There are exceptions, like actors who were part of a show or movie that is extremely well known long after. Martin Mull is a great example because he’s so well known from Clue and Roseanne that even though he was never quite as famous as say Donald Sutherland and people didn’t consciously think of or remember him until he died, he was part of multiple things that had a lasting impact on both pop culture and the respective mediums. John Denver is another great example because everyone knows his name and while he was prolific in his genre, most people don’t listen to that kind of music; they only know one song because it’s been brought over to mainstream media.

I can totally get this, especially if it’s turned into their whole identity. OTOH you’d be amazed how many people are like that behind closed doors even if it’s still illegal in their country. Also, America isn’t the only place that has legalization. There are places with actual legalization, not the smattering of levels of decriminalization or legalization across the US.

Yeah lmao "backbuttoning" out of stories with "casual weed use, especially when the canon media isn't American" is a very funny snit to have for people like me from a country with full legalization where your grandma probably casually tokes.

Right with you. There are characters I could see smoking weed, but a lot of the time the fics that go there depict it in very OOC ways.

The former for a lot of famous radio singles (they chart-topped for a reason); the latter with every artist I love? I thought this was normal - you like a band, but you don't like all of their songs.

Conversely, are there any bands that don't have any songs you don't like? I can't think of a single one.
