(Anonymous) 2024-07-29 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)It's entirely possible that a reader might have chosen a different set of options.
I mean, the options I chose for the fic weren't the options I went for in the game.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)Sometimes, the inclusion of canon dialogue lets you highlight when things BREAK from canon. Sometimes it's just to let you get deep into a character's head when they REACT to those things, too. You can sum up a lot, but if you need to know what someone is thinking and feeling about specific things, you kind of need to let them react TO the thing. I'm thinking of a specific fic right now that uses a lot of canon dialogue in a couple of places, but if it *didn't* do that, you'd need to have the film memorized to know what it is he's reacting to when he's having his thoughts and feelings. And when he doesn't need to respond to specific things, then that dialogue can be omitted entirely because he's just reacting to the general situation and not what's being said, and we only need the vague idea.
