Tell me you never worked retail without telling me you never worked retail.

OP

I've worked retail. And behind the bar too. I still do think Idiocracy is classist sneering at poverty. I object to the kneejerk meme-ing that people are dumb, even if it seems hard to deny right now. People are not dumb animals.

To be honest, I think a lot of people are just dumb and I *still* think Idiocracy is classist sneering at poverty.

It's a bad fucking movie!

Idiocracy's thesis is "stupid people should not reproduce," which is eugenics, which is objectionable on its face regardless of how much of the population you personally assess to be stupid.

Yeah but we don't need to say there's no such thing as stupid people

I think people are dumb but you’re right, I didn’t really take much of the movie into consideration when I made my comment. I think of the movie as just sporking the stupidity of humans in general (and my retail background has shown me there isn’t a class divide in that respect), but when I think about specifics that I can remember I absolutely agree it’s classist. Sorry bout that!

Yeah, I've worked luxury retail and I can assure you that the customers there are just as stupid as the ones you'll find in Walmart. The only difference is that they tend to be stupid in slightly different ways.
