fanfic goofs

I am reading a fic there character burned their back in the sun. Yeah, writer is doing some beach episode kind of fic.
Half an hour later characters are having sex and character with a sunburn is on their back. I just stopped reading at this point.

Anyway. What recent fanfic goofs affected your reading?

I mean it really depends on how bad the sunburn is. I've only had one or two sunburns in my entire life that were so bad I couldn't sleep on the affected area. I've had quite a few more where I was pinkish-red, and my skin was kinda hot for a while, but the actual discomfort was minimal.

I assume the fic was not great in other ways and you had good reason for quitting. I'm just saying that having the character on their back later seems like, at most, a pretty minor oversight to me (unless their sunburn was previously established to be painful and severe).

Yeah, it was cherry on top, to be fair, fic was annoyingly juvenile. Sunburn was established as bad enough not to wear clothes. Yeah, yeah, they were probably trying to be sexy with it but the fact that it never mentioned again was so distracting argh.

I have to call myself out! I published a fic back in December, and I realized a week later I had a character note that their cup of coffee was empty, and then four or five paragraphs later had them take a drink from their coffee cup. I just edited out the last bit. I’m surprised none of my readers pointed it out.

Funnily enough I don't think it would have annoyed me too much though

One very fun fic says the pov character had "a boxing scholarship to West Point" but everyone has a scholarship to West Point. That's the point of West Point.

Author is probably not from the US. I tried reading on West Point but my brain was noping out of it. But it seems like an interesting choice to start with
