I need an early 80s American Car for a character. Model year can be no later than summer '84. It has to be a car for senior local management for a multinational company, a gift the company is throwing in as part of a signing bonus, and it has to be from an American brand. I was thinking a Cadillac something, but what the something is I don't know. I'm not that familiar with American car brands from that era.

So, I do want to start looking for another. Don't know if I can even find one. But I'd like to give it a try. What tips do you all have for how to do a search. And how to market yourself without a huge list of references?

Locking ao3 fic

I've noticed a bunch of writers I follow lock all their ao3 fics over concerns about bots scraping content to train AIs. To the writer anons, how concerned are you about this? I don't want to lock mine, but I don't want to get scraped either, and I'm not dumb enough to think ao3 leadership saying "Please don't scrape our site" will stop anything.

How does Discord work?

Please help a Fandom Old. How easy is it to compartmentalize your activities on Discord? Can anyone you connect with see all the groups you belong to?

I'd potentially use it for family chat and fannish stuff, but DO NOT want to cross those two streams. Would I have to make multiple accounts to keep stuff separate?

Well, fuck. I got hit with a discipline letter at work today. For being out sick with covid for 7 work days. Without expecting to be paid. I'm supposed to sign the thing tomorrow. I really don't want to. But I need this job. And given it is my first full-time job, I need the reference for any other potential job.

Just pissed right now. And frustrated. And scared. I don't even know. What did they want me to do? Come in with COVID and infect everyone and probably die because I wouldn't be able to breathe?

Oh yes. Also, I know nothing about gymnastics. I don't watch the olympics. But I had to watch her stuff on youtube. She's just fantastic and amazing and in a league of her own.

I miss lots of Youtube videos that have somehow mysteriously disappeared from my favorite lists over the past 11 years or so. Especially the Vocaloid ones.

Engel, the legendary NGE AMV. Last I checked it's on youtube without audio due copyright. I have to dig up my burned AMV discs one of these days!

Oh there are so many AMVs that had been deleted over the years (the one I miss the most is a Doumeki x Watanuki xxxHolic fanvid with The Special Two by Missy Higgins).
I also miss Jenna Marbles.

fanfic goofs

I am reading a fic there character burned their back in the sun. Yeah, writer is doing some beach episode kind of fic.
Half an hour later characters are having sex and character with a sunburn is on their back. I just stopped reading at this point.

Anyway. What recent fanfic goofs affected your reading?

I mean it really depends on how bad the sunburn is. I've only had one or two sunburns in my entire life that were so bad I couldn't sleep on the affected area. I've had quite a few more where I was pinkish-red, and my skin was kinda hot for a while, but the actual discomfort was minimal.

I assume the fic was not great in other ways and you had good reason for quitting. I'm just saying that having the character on their back later seems like, at most, a pretty minor oversight to me (unless their sunburn was previously established to be painful and severe).

I have to call myself out! I published a fic back in December, and I realized a week later I had a character note that their cup of coffee was empty, and then four or five paragraphs later had them take a drink from their coffee cup. I just edited out the last bit. I’m surprised none of my readers pointed it out.

One very fun fic says the pov character had "a boxing scholarship to West Point" but everyone has a scholarship to West Point. That's the point of West Point.
