Technically the powers can change someone in various ways, not necessarily always or only directly from conventional afab config to conventional amab setup, and it doesn't seem like the person on the receiving end necessarily gets to freely determine what the end result is. Also nothing says that having a vagina might not simply be the preferred setup by the character in the fic.

I mean, you know and I know and we all know that the meta reason for it happening is "because it's the author's kink" and most of the fics do not go into any of the above details or explain anything, but acting like it's impossibleeeee hooow? i don't understaaand is hyperbole in the opposite direction.

Their kink is not my kink and that's ok.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
that's not how Ivankov's Devil Fruit ability works. Period.

We know in canon that total sex swap is possible, but pretty sure it's never been addressed in canon that resulting in a male body with a vagina is strictly impossible. We also know that it can alter the traits specific physical parts only, without affecting anything else.

Like yes, it's a reach, if the fic writers want to reach, they can reach without violating canon.

I'm not going to make that reach or read that fic, but I'm also not going to bother shaking my fist and demanding rhetorically whyyyyyyy? /shrug

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
No, it is violating canon. Which is fine, I guess, but it's okay to just admit it is what it is.

At first I agreed with you, but the more I think about it the more AYRT has a point.

There's not really a reason why Iva's powers shouldn't be able to do a partway transformation. It doesn't make sense that hormones change the biological sex of a person anyway, a halfway transformation makes neither less nor more sense that a full transformation.

The thing that annoys me lately is if your kink is for a male character to have a vagina it seems like the only options anyone tries these days are to make him trans or go omegaverse, and both of those bring in a bunch of other worldbuilding and characterization baggage that's distracting whether you leave it out or put it in. I don't know this canon but it sounds like it would almost make more sense that he's a cis dude who just got stuck with a vagina because reasons. I miss "cis dude who has a vagina because reasons" fic.

"I miss "cis dude who has a vagina because reasons" fic."

That was not ever really a widespread thing.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Boypussy or cuntboy fic was absolutely a widespread thing, in pornfic. But I really only replied so I could say "widespread" again.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
It was absolutely wide spread thing. At least at some fandoms

*laughs brokenly in k-pop fandom*

The reason why I only read explicit fics with trans characters from authors I trust is because so much of it reads like cuntboy fetish fic. There is nothing wrong with cuntboy fetish fic! I've read it myself when I'm in the mood. But for fuck's sake, stop trying to hide your fetish fic by slapping the trans character label on it and making a random reference to chest binding. Your kink is okay.

Having said that, for this character in particular the whole point actually is that we thought he was a cis dude for the longest time, until it turned out he has a history with another character who can change people's biological sex through magic powers, and said character knows a big secret about the dude. The jump to "dude was born female and Ivankov changed his sex to male" was immediate.

Oh if that's the storyline then yeah why would he have a vagina if he was trans???

A lot of times I don't think it's even exactly "fetish" fic, it's "I want fic about blorbo getting railed that I can imgine myself in, and I have a vagina" (a lot of the time even the stuff that's really perfunctory about the trans aspects is written by trans folks) but yeah.

It's at least marginally better than the "I want to write het fic but between two cis dudes because vaginas are icky, which I will state repeatedly" that we used to get, I guess.

The character with the magic powers is kind of a troll and a case could be made that he left the vagina on purpose to fuck with the dude in the secret. I genuinely never considered anything like this (I don't read fics for the dude in the secret) but I'm warming up to the idea NGL.

The good thing about the past is that it shows us that things change soon enough. Fandom got over it's "ew, girls" phase, it'll get over the annoying current trends as well.

Fandom got over it's "ew, girls" phase

Citation so, so needed.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, considering that fandom would much rather pretend the character with the vagina is a trans man instead of just female, I'd say the "ew, girls" issue is alive and well, it just disguised itself.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean people used to write them as just cis female but whole fandoms completely stopped writing that trope because they were tired of the "genderswap is homophobia/transphobia" callouts. (In other fandoms genderswap is still alive and well.)

(Anonymous) 2024-08-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
So going by this, the "ew, girls" might have actually gotten worse in some ways.
