It wouldn't have been called sexual assault because that term didn't, like, exist, but given Camelot has potatoes, I think we can get away with it. (Also the actual middle ages did in fact have "don't coerce women into sex" as an ethical guideline, which powerful men routinely ignored. That wasn't invented recently? So yeah, he's about as likely to actually get cancelled for it as Tony Stark, but then again, he's about as likely to get cancelled for it as Tony Stark.)

...also I'll admit I noped out of that series well before the end but sure he's a bit dim but also prophesied king who will unite all Albion? Charisma and strategic skill for days? Wins every tournament he enters? Did they just forget about that bit? Nobody's going to be calling Jamie Tartt an inductive genius either but he's a genius at what he does.

He's mostly included here because he's one of the only characters I've ever seen anyone attempt that storyline for in fic, though.

That's not actually what I meant. There are quite a few things that fall under the sexual assault banner that aren't forcible rape that I doubt would be seen as really all that bad by the public at large at the time. Yes, forcible rape occurred at the time and it was considered bad, but there are a host of other things that would fall under the sexual assault banner that would not be recognized as something to shun someone for.

Yeah, I think the difference there is exaggerated, honestly. Like what a certain man is currently being cancelled for would probably be called mostly "seduction" rather than "rape" but "seduction" was absolutely not ethically okay? Like princes could get away with it but it wasn't *good* and their dads would absolutely be paying people off to keep it quiet. If he was in a politically tricky spit with his nobles and it got out he'd been seducing virgins he'd be in big trouble (that's part of why he fell in the original!) Similarly you weren't going to jail for forcing the servant girls but you would get a whisper network and a bad reputation. And in the original there's TONS of random magic ready to call you out and curse you for being an unchaste knight.

Women had quite a bit of social power in the Dark Ages and it's not like they somehow liked it back then either.
