There’s Mothman stuff sometimes.

Methman more like

AGREED! I'm from the Northeast, not Appalachia, but I appreciate hearing folklore from all parts, and listening to the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast has been fun for that!

Yeah, yeah, hillbillies (eyeroll). I want to know about the stories found there by the different peoples who inhabit that area -- from WV to KY and beyond. Because there are different people there. Also check out Black in Appalachia podcast.

SA

I put the eyeroll next to hillbillies because I'm referring to what the media often portrays as "hillbillies". Instead of looking at the storied history/lives of the people themselves who descended from Scouts/Irish settlers (correct me if I'm wrong).

*Scots

people are more than a reductionist term (even if they feel like it can largely apply to their lives, imo)

Any recs?

Here to make sure this was recommended.

Not the point, but gosh that is a pretty trail. I'd hike that.

I'd seriously like to know what this "don't whistle in the woods" meme is about. And the one about watching out for owls in bushes too.

I threw this out when this showed up in the secret-submitting thread, but has anyone here seen The Legend of Hillbilly John (1972)? I have to admit I haven't, having only read about it in a review, but it's apparently a good-natured (but cheap and flawed) attempt to bring some of the Silver John movies to the big screen. If anyone has, I'd like to hear what they thought.

(responding to self) Silver John STORIES, not movies. Hate when my brain acts as dumb as a smartphone.

I haven't seen it (heard it was terrible) but I LOVE the Silver John stories and I would absolutely love to have a good movie or TV adaptation of them.

It would also be cool to have a visual adaptation of some of the stories from the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast.

Where is my tailypo horror goddammit.
