There’s a hell of a lot more superhero content than any mentions of superhero fatigue. And I don’t just mean FS; this is pretty much the case everywhere. The MCU alone has over 30 movies with more already in post production. That’s not counting the shows. Or DCU, plus all the DC content that isn’t DCU. Oh and there are the cartoons again. It’s a never ending parade, quite literally. There is no end in sight and in fact plans for superhero content fill the next 15 years on both the big and little screeens.

TBF, there wouldn't be so much superhero fatigue to bitch about if there weren't so many effing superhero movies to give us superhero fatigue in the first place.

So if you really want the superhero fatigue to stop... well, you can see where this is headed.

All the grousing about comic book movie fatigue is especially grating to me because I collect comic books, which can go on forever by design, and I'm a sci-fi and fantasy junkie! I mostly watch those genres and might not watch anything else consistently for years. So, the constant stream of comic book movies and shows is heavenly!

I have liked plenty of the films over the years so am not going to pretend I'm above it, but for me it's not so much fatigue as being frustrated when a my local cinema has basically every screen dedicated to whichever new superhero film but the one smaller release I want to see is only on twice a day for two days and I'm at work.

(I am a fan of more than one genre and I do appreciate that one of those big genres I like is strangling the schedule sometimes and I can see why it annoys other people. Though having said that I think "get it on streaming quickly at all costs" has contributed to the erosion of a varied schedule too.)

It's really MCU fatigue, not superhero fatigue.

Part of it is that MCU movies are very samey. Part of it is that Marvel releases a lot of movies - they've released 11 MCU movies over the last 4 years. And part of it is that, out of those 11 movies, 5 of them just weren't that good.

If you're going to release that much product and have people not get tired of it, you need to do better than that. The reason that the MCU is doing badly is basically because of Eternals, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, Quantumania, and Marvels.

I don’t think they make these movies for Jane Austen fans though. They aren’t true adaptations (according to the way too many secrets we’ve had over the years); they’re just meant to give a general audience an idea of Austen’s stories. They keep getting made because they’re super cheap to make, they’re a reliable source of income for up and coming British actors and a safe spend for the Beeb or any production company. They’re cosy weekend family viewing content and not much more tbh.

I'm no expert but maybe it was an intentional choice to show the contrast so the audience would have the desired emotional reaction. Yes, we all know there are different levels of "rich" but most people's knee-jerk reaction is going to be "Quit whining, you're rich! You're fine!"

See also the friend who marries Mr. Collins. I think they made her older in the movie so the audience would have the correct reaction when she makes her case for marrying him.

This is barely related, but a fact I loved discovering (from a scholar doing a close-read on youtube) was that by the standards of the day, the Bennets are actually of a higher class than the Bingleys. They don't own a home outright, which means they don't have an estate - and therefore aren't landed gentry, unlike Mr. Bennet and his girls by extension.

(Also the Bingleys are apparently actually tradesfolk who have conveniently forgotten where their wealth started? I really did not read closely enough.)

The thing about Batman, at least to me, is that it's always hard to reconcile a guy who is a billionaire and has a near sci-fi tech advantage over literally everyone else... with noir as a genre. I know that Batman is "supposed" to be noir, but noir to me is the jaded street detective who got fired from his police job with only a pistol, their brain, one friend who is semi-trustable at best, a bottle of whiskey and a pesky conscience they can't drown with it. Putting a super genius billionaire in it kind of ruins it by default and moves it toward sci-fi/suspense.

Then to stay noir, they have to keep Batman somehow forever the underdog, so the power creep begins and requires supernatural villains to keep up, because how would the average person ever be a challenge?
