The multiverse is not a bad plot device, nor are multiverse stories necessarily bad.

Good multiverse stories:

Into the Spiderverse
No Way Home
Everything Everywhere all at once

I don’t know this particular canon, but All the Myriad Ways basically broke me as far as multiverse stories. The only story I’ve seen that even kinda dug its way out of that hole is Singleton by Greg Egan.

I think that list is generally pretty accurate for fan and critical reception. But honestly I hated all of them. I’m just tired of the multiverse trend.
