I'm a casual Hazbin enjoyer as a general animation fan (imo Viv did an amazing work from the indie animation fan perspective!) and don't partake in its fandom, but the hate this show has, while understandable to me, is too much tbh. it's literally a You Like It or You Don't thing, very specific. if you don't like it - just ignore? don't watch?? move on with your life??? I'm starting thinking people who hate it are just enjoying puting it down and tbh that's just sad. I wish I could tell them all to go find things they like, they'd feel much better if they do.

I have the completely un-backed-up impression that a lot of the Hazbin Hotel hate comes from bitter Owl House fans who blame it for the fact that they can't go get more of what they like, because a lot of the fandom moved there so whenever they say they want more Owl House, people point them toward Hazbin Hotel instead.

This may be entirely wrong but it's a vibe I've picked up second hand.

I’m in the Owl House fandom and I’ve barely ever seen anything about Hazbin Hotel there. Most of the shows that get pushed for us to watch next are whatever is newest on Disney at the moment.

I'm in the Owl House fandom, too. Same here. I noticed pretty much zero overlap there.

I've seen waaaaay more migration to Hazbin Hotel from My Hero Academia's fandom. Almost every old MHA fan I'm following are either on Dungeon Meshi or Hazbin Hotel now.

It is, unironically, that Vivz is a queer woman with a last name (Medrano) that doesn't sound white.

I agree with the "either you like it or you don't" thing, this series/related works definitely has an utterly polarizing level of like or don't. Just throwing it out there, though, that the line (for me) between It's Not For Me and utter hatred is the fans who insist that if you don't like it, it's because you're a horrible person who probably is homophobic, doesn't get it, just need to watch it again to realize you do like it, etc etc. The thing that pushes people to genuinely and sincerely hate any entertainment media property is almost always stans who just can't admit that "don't like it, not for me" is valid. People in my fandom circle are either super for or super against and the line is legitimately how hard you stan for wanting your friends to like it as much as you do bc you start questioning yourself if your friends don't like your current obsession.

see, here's the thing tho for me, who's not in the HH fandom - I don't encounter Hazbin stans in my feed at all. you know what I do get from time to time, as a general animation fan? Hazbin/HBoss/Vivzie hate posts. it's like clockwork, every few months, and frankly I think that's way too much, no matter how annoying the fanbase may be.
also if you reread the secret, OP talks about just enjoying their stuff and people coming out of their way to hate on them for that.
