Yeah, it was a homophobic expectation. I don't think I'd call any individual author homophobic for doing it, though, not if the alternative is getting flamed.

(Admittedly, modern detailed tagging conventions make the warning redundant regardless of any homophobia that may or may not still exist. Your fic is clearly tagged as Blorbo/Glup Shitto, they're both known dudes, and you don't have any genderbending tags, so if someone needs an additional warning to realize this is M/M that's a them problem.)
