I will grant you that it is obnoxious that otherwise intelligent and informed people tend to go the route of "the gender binary is a white invention and every nonwhite culture ever had trans and nonbinary people, and they were never ever actually cis people who were coerced into being such due to being gay or gender-nonconforming." But like, there is a lot of nuance there even when they were homophobic, all in all I wouldn't say the acceptance of trans identities sometimes coming with a side of homophobia or gender essentialism is a worse way to live than our current cis-centric gender binarist society. They both suck, just for different types of people.

I mean, aside from just about all indigenous versions of historical nonbinariism coming from very gender essentialist cultures where being gay made you other and thus you were rather treated like a third gender than being accepting of your sexuality, one of the current examples is how gay men in some Islamist countries get the choice between death and transitioning to a female identity because being trans and straight is more accepted than being cis gay.
