I just finished this cdrama and while I did enjoy a lot of it, it wasn't as satisfying of a prequel to Blood of Youth as I'd hoped for. I think there was just so much plot they needed to cram into it to get the story to a logical place where you'd see the roots of BoY, and the show didn't quite pull it off. IMO, too much romance filler, the male leads spent way too much time apart when the whole point was best-friends-turned-enemies, and it lacked the whole bromance/friendship vibe that made BoY so much fun.

I love Li Changsheng, though. Both versions. And seeing Prince Langya/Xiao Ruofeng as a more prominent character was cool, too.

Considering I dropped BoY because of the craptastic shitromance, I'm glad I never started with this one.

I didn't mind it, because it didn't take up too much time in BoY. I don't think the plot needed it, and would've preferred that they leave it out altogether, though. DY has more attempts at romance that aren't really fleshed out, but take up waaaaay too much time, IMO. It needed more bromance and swordfights.
