From the things I heard and read about the BTS stuff, it seems as though Alyssa was the instigator. Shannon suffered from the bad rep she got after BH90210.

What's putting you more in AM's side, OP?

(Also, I would have said that Phoebe was more popular than Prue back in the day. In my experience, Prue wasn't really appreciated until after she was killed off.)

From what Shannen said on her podcast, it started because Alyssa wanted the same pay as Shannon, but Shannon had negotiated that she would always have the highest pay, and Shannon didn't want to renegotiate that. So Alyssa either threatened to quit or demanded that they remove Shannen (Shannen says the producers told her that Alyssa asked for her to get fired; Alyssa denies this and the trade sources at the time say that Alyssa just threatened to quit. My interpretation: the producers were deliberately using charged language to see who would break first. They probably told Alyssa that unless Shannen is gone she won't get that pay, Alyssa said but I'm also gone if I don't get equal pay, and the producers told Shannen that Alyssa wanted her gone in order to stay). In between all these talks, Alyssa and Shannen and Holly are childish as fuck on set. So Alyssa asks for a mediator. Shannen and Holly thought this was a trap and didn't meet with them. HR-wise, this was incredibly dumb of Shannen. If its a trap, bring your lawyer. From what I know of corporate culture, not going through the process is a good way to make it easy to fire you.

I think the producers are probably mostly to blame. But I don't have much sympathy for Shannen wanting a dollar extra than her coworkers, and I don't blame Alyssa for feeling like Phoebe's popularity merited her at least as much as Shannen. So I'm more on Alyssa's side.

You're right that Phoebe was way more popular during the heyday, but everyone now says they liked Prue the best and hate Phoebe (likely because Alyssa is annoying as shit), and yes I do think there's actress to character bleed.

Armin Shimerman and Rose McGowen's (and Julian McMahon's rumored desire to stop working with AM) accounts of what went on BTS make me doubtful that Shannen was the most unprofessional of the two ladies. SD may have demanded higher pay, but in the entertainment business, what she demanded wasn't unusual or considered out-of-line in light of the star power she brought with her. If AM had an issue with it, she should have left SD's name out of her mouth and dealt exclusively with the people actually holding the purse strings. Instead, she went to war with one of her co-stars drove her off the show, and seemed to get worse to work with afterward.

yeah, it doesn't matter if its normal, once it became a problem, i don't have sympathy for people who want more than their cast-mates when the balance of popularity is more even. it shouldn't be a problem for everyone to get the same pay. and apparently alyssa was dealing exclusively with the producers, because all of shannen and holly's info on alyssa's motives are from those same producers.

So you have nothing to say about the scores of people who are not the producers and personally witnessed events, who said AM went on a power trip, got her co-star fired, and then went on an ever-bigger power trip? Okay, I get it. You're unapologetically biased.

Have a nice day.

The way I heard it, Alyssa threatened to blackmail the show with a hostile work environment suit to oust Shannen.

Coffee and Cults did a great deep dive, and Ash has excellent sourcing and no sponsors.

since coffee and cults doesn't source directly on this point, which is wild, it seems like she got the info from holly who got the info from the producers, which as i already said above is not something i would trust, and that's doubly so for people who holly also said were threatening her income. for some reason i dont think people who are trying to manipulate you are trustworthy.

The entire thing sounds like typical Hollywood BS

I agree that Shannen got a lot of grace from fans/the general public due to her cancer diagnosis and the fact that she left the show early and her character was given a graceful exit before the shows' reputation spiraled into a ridiculous one.

I can't recall who the most popular lead was but when I watched the show I liked Prue the most and I felt like Phoebe was given more screentime than I liked. But I'm highly aware this is from my POV when I was into the show (NGL I stopped watching after Prue died, learned about the rest of the series via Allison Pregler's Charmed videos).

How did anyone like Prue? She was a complete uppity bitch most of the time. Piper was the best, even though she forgave Leo for far too much shit.

My opinion is solely from the show btw, never seen them in anything else, or know anything about the actresses themselves.
