Re. the pic: Those are some seriously awesome goggles.

I think it's because back in the day, m/m being canon actually was much less common and that made our expectations much, much lower. People take it more seriously now that the real likelihood of canon m/m exists. And that's a good thing, so I can take the sometimes-annoying increase in slash goggles-wearing fans thinking it could be canon that it's caused.

I wonder what your qualifications for greatest actor are. He is very good at the characters he chooses but overall they all seem kind of samey? But tbf I haven't seen his entire works.

It boils down to people wanting to be right and like the 'correct' (ie: canon) thing, it used to not even be a pipe dream some 20 years ago because canon gay characters were few and far between, never mind a consistent gay romance in a show, but because there's more queer rep in general it's warped a subset of fans perception into believing that their fave non-canon ships are somehow going to sail despite their shows not even slightly hinting at it because being 'right' is more important than just having fun.

And man does is suck the enjoyment out of fandom tbh.

Most people just want to have fun in fandom. I don't know why this comm is so hellbent on assigning them selfish motives.

I just don't care for the sound of her music, it's not my style. I feel like a lot of the current music that is supposed to be popular among queer women is just not the sound I enjoy, even though I am also a queer woman.

When those same people scream and harass other fans who like a different ship it's not about having fun, it's about being right and being able to tell other fans they're wrong. If they were chill about it I wouldn't care, but they're so often not. So yeah, they're selfish bullies.

The moment anyone starts that 'if you're queer you're meant to like/hate x/y' crap I tune out. We're not a monolith and we all have our own personal likes and tastes, you're not a better gay for liking her music or a better one for not. It's personal preference ffs.

idk man it's not really fun to try and ship something when a lot of other fans are srsly huffing some delusion and trying to convince the rest of the fandom that a pair of friends written as friends are totes gonna be paired off at some point. it takes otherwise relaxed fandoms and turns them into a mess of expectations and when those expectations aren't met? fuck me does it get nasty.
