Well, it depends on how one feels about Dave Chapelle and his unapologetic, determined transphobia, but Patton Oswalt defends him - though he does say that they disagree completely about transgender rights & representation, so there's that.

I wouldn't go so far as to think he's abusive, but he is very much Ryan Reynolds The Brand(TM), which is fine, make your money. But he comes off as nothing but entirely fake to me, none of it comes off as genuine at all.

I'm not sure "fakeness" is something I can fault an typical actor or entertainer for, though. Same with Taylor Swift, etc.

Not saying they're good people, but being a brand all the time is the entertainer's job.

Oh yeah they all have a polished version of themselves they present to the public, I'm not ignorant of that. But for me his comes off as extra fake if that makes sense? Like I don't buy he's remotely how he acts on camera. To clarify I don't fault him for that or think he's a monster, I just really don't care for him the way a lot of people do because it screams so massively fake to me that's all.

I think it's very meticulously thought out with personality traits exaggerated for comedic effect, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's ALL fake.

That said, it got old for me so I'm not a big fan.

oh, that's my fault, i wasn't clear. i am not talking about the things he does on screen. i'm talking about him and blakely's attempt to synergize her movie and his, which involved him taking over aspects of her project, but selling it as something very cute/funny. i just can't see him ever letting blake lively get more than a cameo on anything of his. and scarjo made some interesting comments when they got divorced but she didn't mention him explicitly so that's in the background for me i guess.

I have a singular crumb of fondness for Ryan Reynolds but only in the context of his interactions with Stray Kids; most of the time I could care less about him but I'm very tickled that he's a fan of theirs.

For me, he seems like a typical insecure guy who competes with his SO because he wants to be center of the world and he expects her to dim her light for him and depend on him to help her career.

I see this shit too often IRL.

Ryan Reynolds has a pattern, and he has Tom Cruise-like vibes in regards to the women they married.

All of this is my speculation based off all the years of my obsessive tabloid/celeb entertainment consumption.
IMO Ryan and ScarJo divorced was due to his inability to be happy for her success.

And he and Blake Lively work well together because she hasn't outshone him yet and bow that so much of their work is together, her success will always be his success too.

I can still remember this one specific point of some celeb biography (possibly E! True Hollywood Story) where Nicole Kidman was being interviewed for "Batman Returns". She spoke of how nervous she'd be on press junkets and have Tom Cruise there to hold her hand. Nicole and Tom would schedule their film shoots in a way where they wouldn't be separated for longer than like 2 weeks (or something like that).
When "Moulin Rouge" came along Nicole spent around 2 months away shooting without Tom around. And what do you know? Her star rises high and she gets an Oscar nomination.
And it wasn't long after that, they divorced.

Tom married Katie Holmes and her promising acting career came to a standstill.

Some guys are just really, really awful to the women they claim to love in quiet, snake-y ways.
For sure, Ryan Reynolds has a dark side where I think he wants a partner to have around so he can compete with them and come out as the bigger star/secret sauce.

OP, the way I wheezed when I saw you use darksided as a term, and the flashback you gave me...LMAO thank you!

That said, Ryan Reynolds kind of annoys me, I don't think his acting is very good (I'd be happy to see him prove me wrong) -- it's very same guy in every movie (even the Mint Mobile commercials! Is this Ryan Reynolds or Wade Wilson?), and outside of being able to say he was affable to my mom and auntie when they ran into him in public (they also said he was good looking -- ymmv, imo), I have nothing this far against him.

That said, I still do side eye him and Blake Lively for getting married in a plantation house. She also comes off as annoying.
