I agree with this, but mainly I just wish I could talk about fanfic with my RL friends.

I mean, I have zero shame, so I actually DO talk about fanfic with my RL non-fandom friends, but I tend to keep things fairly vague. I might mention a fic in a conversation about fiction in general. I might bring up a common fanfic trope in a conversation about fictional tropes. If we both enjoy a particular canon, I might mention a bit of fanon about a particular character, and whether I ascribe to it or don't. I might tall them about a crack fic I read and we'll have a laugh about it. My friends are all geeks too, and I listen to them talk about their geek things, so I don't feel bad bringing up my geek things. But I'd love to be able to actually discuss specific fics, and specific fanon things, and specific fanfic tropes at length with friends who are actually into those things the same way I am.

I did have a RL fandom friend once, and it was really fun to be able to talk about that stuff with her. Unfortunately, we fell out eventually, and I haven't made any more RL fandom friends since then.
