Writing Challenges

(Anonymous) 2024-09-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm doing Whumptober with my bestie this year and I've already written four fics and I'm so excited to be doing it. Is anyone else doing a writing challenge? Sicktember? Whumptober? Kinktober? Inktober? Still working on one from last year?

What's your process? Favorite prompts? Any tips?

With everything that has been going down with NaNoWriMo, people have been putting up various suggestions for alternative challenges that I actually want to take part in - like writing 500+ words a day for a month feels more achievable for me.

Also might combine some flufftober and kinktober challenges to make my own 'sugar and spice' prompt list for some fanfic ideas, since when I usually commit fully to one - I end up wanting to do the other instead.

oh yeah, I forgot about all the NaNo drama lately!

but combining the prompts sounds tasty! sugar and spice, yes, yes! I get wanting to commit to more than one thing but not being able to - I know I can only handle one challenge at a time (if I can even finish THAT - I'll probably still be writing in December rip). but I LOVE prompt lists at all times, I just found Whumptober to be so inspiring this year and I'm having a blast in the Discord.

Wait what is the nanowrimo drama? I'm out of the loop.

NaNo had made a big stance about allowing AI to be used in people's work because refusing would be considered 'ableist and classist'. Also the sponsor for NaNo this year is an AI company so that might also have something to do with it.

Wow. I had not heard, but I can certainly see why it caused a scandal.

Especially with the finger-waggy "and anyone who complains is a bigot" that I'm hearing in the explanation. What a blunder.

AYRT oh wow. I'm pretty shocked at that and honestly disappointed. I haven't participated in a few years but it always in the back of my mind as something of the good. Sad to see this development.
