I think both are great. New York City has much better museums - San Francisco has decent museums but New York is one of the best museum cities on the planet, especially for art museums. Both have stellar food, and I think it's a wash in that regard. SF usually has slightly nicer weather in October if that makes a difference.

IDK I think it's a good choice either way really.
