Re: Fanfic flags - green and red

Green flag: only one relationship tagged, or maybe two. Only one category tagged, or maybe two. A relatively small number of tags overall (not a wall o' tags situation) and a relatively short, quick summary (2-3 sentences ideally). Username of author has good vibes. Title has good vibes. No one thing that you can point to that gives the username and title good vibes but I do think that lowercase title, title with parenthetical, or both is almost always a good sign. Overall, a sense of restraint in how the author is presenting their stuff, because it makes me feel like they had a specific idea which they are executing on, rather than just throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall.

Red flag: Wall of tags, especially tons of different relationship tags. Summary is long and includes a lot of discussion of the author's goals and process in writing the story (which IMO should be in the author notes instead). Username of author has bad vibes. Bad grammar, spelling or tone when I click on the story. Overly prose-y descriptions of characters and overly dramatic narrative voice in general. Songfic. Author focuses the summary of the story specifically on the identity that they have assigned the main character, like sexuality or neurodivergence (to be clear I have nothing against these kinds of stories, and in fact I like them a lot when done well, but a lot of people are very bad at writing them).
