See also, quite famously, the final episode of How I Met Your Mother.

Yup. Steve Rogers comes to mind as well.

I second this. Sadly, my post-work-week brain is mushy enough that I can't offer up a suggestion. But there are plenty of clever Anons in this group....
(Gods, that last season was so disappointing....)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Question: Did you enjoy the other seasons? I thought 1 was fun, 2 started to go downhill, and 3 I didn't even finish it was so awful.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm currently watching through the last season and I've only heard about how terrible it is so I'm either going to end up actually enjoying it because I'm expecting nothing but Bad Stuff, or I'll dislike it like others. Only time will tell.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-09 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
There is something nice about going in with awful expectations. 9 times out of 10 I come out thinking "that wasn't as bad as I was expecting. In fact it was actually a lot of fun!"

That Game of Thrones ending man...

Finale Bombs?
Ruined by the Ending?
Massive Shit Endings?
Uhh...yeah, it really sucks when a show ends on a really bad note.

I didn't watch seasons 3 and 4 for a lot of reasons, but it makes me glad (but a little sad) that I didn't spend more time watching yet another show ruin goodwill from fans by making a really bad last season/ending.

The whole time I was reading the secret I thought, “Someone hasn’t seen Game of Thrones and apparently was never online for the three months after the finale.”

Right?
GoT, How I Met Your Mother, The Rise of Skywalker...

It's not in the finale but LONG LIVE THE STARBUCKS COFFEE CUP!

I hear the Star vs. the Forces of Evil ending had Star committing genocide or something?

There was also a ragesplosion over the Steven Universe ending, but I think the writers did the best they could after the network cut their episode count.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
It was only genocide if you're so literal-brained that you can't see through the lens of the genre you're watching.

It pisses me off because it did fuck things up big time in every other way, but all that legitimate criticism always gets overshadowed by "GeNoCiDe!!!!!"

I just call those Game of Thrones finales. But man, that whole season was terrible and the ending just made it worse. I can’t believe the writers thought that was a fitting finale.

Yup. There were some plot ideas that could have worked if given more time. But they were clearly bored and over it and so they rushed to a very unsatisfying final that just didn't work.

Personally, I just pretend the show ends with the end of season five. The ships heading to Westeros is the perfect ending.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I can think of several things that were this for me.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
This is based on comics, right? Did they change the comics ending? (I haven't read or watched this)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
The comics aren’t finished and the story’s pretty different between the two.

Annihilative

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't just a willful despoiling; it is something that has brought the show (and the way people feel about it) to ruin in a profoundly destructive way.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes. I haven't seen it yet... Should I just avoid it and pretend they saved the world and it all went back to normal after escaping the hotel?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes you should. I watched the final season and I really wish I had stopped at the third season finale.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Based off the handful of reviews I watched for the final season, yes, you should absolutely do that. I didn't watch past season 2 and I already have a fix-it story in my head for the happy ending the leads deserve.
