(Anonymous) 2024-09-13 02:25 am (UTC)(link)I do think Natlan is, in general, a departure from what we'd become familiar with from Genshin, but I think that's very much... on purpose? Fontaine was also a departure in a lot of ways, and in my opinion it's necessary. The game is nearing its conclusion in a lot of respects - after Natlan, we have one more region in Teyvat left, and if they want to continue things into Khaenri'ah, the Abyss, or Celestia, the Teyvat plotline should probably wrap up first. That's not a lot of time, and the story needs to be moving somewhere if it's going to feel satisfying going into a second season so to speak. Natlan has, at least, brought us a very different take on the Abyss, and I think following up with that after Fontaine is the best choice they could've made. I do also think that once we get more of the story, it will feel more "Genshin-ish" but it's good for any long-term story to break away from what's expected, even if it is jarring.
