"certain Oscars should be off the table unless significant changes in writing were made" There are really only two Oscars for 'writing', and the only relevant Oscar for a remake would be Best Adapted Screenplay. And this century there have been about five films in total that were adaptions of other films, including a couple of short films.

"And those get praise while the original movies get ignored" I mean, yes, in America, and I guess if the movie is up for best picture, the wider english speaking world. As Bong Joon-ho says though, β€œThe Oscars are not an international film festival. They're very local.”
