The canon doesn't change the fact that people findd shipping two dudes hotter.

This.

Sure? Two arguments can be true at once. Just saying it's not always false.

Fic writing fandom in particular, yeah.

Porn drawing fandom skews wayyyy into the other direction outside of anywhere besides Tumblr.

The stuff that appears in almost all Sentinel AUs. Guides are an actual thing and not just some rando and they are intrinsically calming for their Sentinel, at the very least, if not people in general. They must be genetically or spiritually compatible with a Sentinel, so neither can just have any partner. Both of them have spirit guides. It's been so long, I can't remember if the whole going-evil-makes-you-dormant thing is canon or fanon, but definitely that.

For me, by hits too close to home just means I don't want to read about my own body or representation at all.

Why do you even need to reboot Seinfeld.

It's Seinfeld. It doesn't even have a premise. You can just make a sitcom with four random people who hang out and call it whatever.

Re: What is your current fandom?

I'm in the fandom for Hannibal (old obsession) and KinnPorsche (new obsession). Fic only for MDZS and also Witcher (I'm a fan of the games; I watched the first episode of the tv show and dipped cause holy fuck that was bad; both Geralt and Henry Cavill deserved better).

SA Although there some fandoms that do (or at least did) have a lot of f/f back in the day. In Xena: Warrior Princess fandom, the most popular ships were Xena/Gabrielle and Xena/Callisto. So did a lot of anime fandoms with female leads and/or majority female casts. Sakura/Tomoyo (Cardcaptor Sakura) was very popular. Dirty Pair had a lot of Kei/Yuri.

Also, AO3 leans heavily towards m/m slash because it was created by m/m slash fans, heavily for m/m slash fans because m/m fans were tired of their fanworks being deleted without warning on other platforms.

I don't want to read about anyone who could be me. I start thinking about what I would do in that situation and I get distracted or if the female character does something I think is stupid I get frustrated.

Oooh I loved that show. Miss Parker was my icon.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, there are definitely f/f fandoms, I know it well.

But, in the kind of fic-writing transformative fandom that I have in mind when I say "fandom" in this context, it's clear that m/m substantially outweighs everything else.

Whatever:The Show About Nothing

(Anonymous) 2024-09-14 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I feel like I can understand the logic there. Like, there are characters you shouldn't be attracted to, but it's fine to get off to whatever situations (featuring acceptable targets of attraction) you want. Like, I think that's what makes me personally more squicked by loli/shota than gore. (TBC being squicked =/= moral judgement, it's fine as long as nobody's getting hurt irl.)

I mean they basically already did this, even! It's literally just what Curb is!

Yes, I'd love! But also, I'd love an adaption of Peter Pan that sticks closer to the original and makes Peter creepy.

Tomorrow Resting mostly, getting my covid booster at lunchtime.

Sunday going to church to man a table to get people to sign up for our event that is several speakers speaking about the border, immigrants, and such. Oh and taking mom to the airport at 4:30.

Or not even the quality of writing, just the number of characters. If there are 10 male characters and 3 female characters, by nature, there are going to be fewer f/f ships. This is not the primary reason f/f is less popular but it is true. Like, just think about gender flipping popular canons - suddenly there's going to be a million potential f/f ships and only a handful of m/m ships.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-14 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC there were a whole swath of people who are into lolishota who imagine themselves as the child as opposed to being attracted to the child, similar to people who read/write rape fic imagining themselves as the victim and not the rapist, which makes things more complicated

I mean, there aren't a huge amount of female characters front and center in Tolkien, but I would love to see more F/F stuff. It is mostly M/M and M/F right now. Which makes sense, honestly, and I do ship those things. But also, give me Eowyn/Arwen, Galadriel/Luthien, and other femslash stuff.

Game of Thrones needs more F/F.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. AO3 was created years ago, though. If there was some massive untapped thirst for F/F, it would be more prominent.

I've written all orientations in pairings and people do read F/F! It's just that most huge fandom juggernauts are M/M or M/F.

They think that if they're vigilant enough it won't happen to them, so they have to find a way to convince themselves that the victims did something wrong. Like "enjoy a popular book" or "have a job".
