For a long while there, people who wanted to write "'male' character is forced to be girly and realizes she's actually transfem" ended up actually writing "male character is forced to act girly (but is still male)" for various reasons of lacking information and/or hiding from transphobia, and the fact that this has only started to change relatively recently is probably one of the main reasons the tagging convention hasn't caught up yet.

I like 'em both, personally, but I do get it; they are different things and everyone will be happier once we're tagging accordingly.
