Re: Celebrity voice actors...

It depends on the context. Some are actually good at it. For example Ralph Fiennes does great in Prince of Egypt. Will Farrell in Megamind. Cumberbatch as Smaug (less good as the voice of Sauron).

All the famous actors who did roles in ATLA. They made good choices. Jason Isaacs and Mark Hamill in particular, both of whom have also done great in other voice acting roles.

And, of course, Jeremy Irons as Scar in the original Lion King and Robin Williams as the Genie. Oh, and James Earl Jones and Alan Tudyk in Star Wars. And Ian McDiarmid did great as the voice of Palpatine in various animated shows as did Tim Curry the time he took the roles.

Tim Curry is another actor who is good as both regular and voice.

BUt there are also lots of terrible examples. I think it used to be they'd just find someone who was really good, and sometimes it happened to be a celebrity. But when someone is cast just because they are a celebrity, even if they aren't good at voice acting, that becomes the problem.
