Nothing against liking what you like and knowing it, but vampires always struck me as the least-undead of the undead. In the sense that most zombies are conspicuously missing intelligence and a personality, and a charismatic vampire (well written) just had hundreds or thousands of years to develop whatever sense of self they previously had. And to lose a lot of those pesky morals that make people who are afraid of dying boring.

YMMV, but zombies are catnip for people who want to fantasize about comitting mass murder without having to feel guilty about taking sentient lives. Vampires are catnip for people who like the idea of people transcending mortality.
