In general, I feel like recently, all showrunners think children are able to process is gross-out humour and really dumb slapstick. Which, I know, has been a thing in children's shows/movies forever but I feel like there barely is anything else these days.

I think quips are just the only thing bad writers know how to produce, reliably. Aside from that, though, I agree completely with both of you.
