The Theater

What movies, if any, do you think are worth it to see on the big screen?

I was happy I saw the D&D movie in the theater, but that's the only recent one I can think of. I wish I had seen Jurassic Park in the theater back in the day.

Seeing Master and Commander on the big screen was really something. It made the ocean feel overwhelming and terrifying in a way that I think wouldn’t have happened on a smaller format.

I missed seeing Monkey Man in theatres and I regret it. I’m still hoping to watch it on my friend’s projection set-up .

Tbf I've seen Monkey Man in a cinema and even though I enjoyed the movie, camera work made me motion sick. And I am not usually that affected. But. All. The. Fucking. Close. Ups. are so damn annoying on a big screen

Gravity in 3D was amazing. I also really enjoyed Fury Road in the theatre.

We just missed Monkey Man because we saw no advertising for it until I saw some gifsets on tumblr and that very day was the last day in the theatre.

Hm, I thought V for Vendetta was worth the ticket price in an actual theater.

Disney messed with some of the timing in The Lion King to shorten the playing time for VHS tape, and in comparison, I miss the long and threatening pause they took out right after Scar says, "you wouldn't kill your own uncle!"

I really would have liked to see Oliver Stone's Snowden in theaters. I loved the acting and the pacing and the clarity of the narrative. Wasn't possible.

Seeing The Force Awakens in theater opening night with a bunch of Star Wars nerds (I went alone, but it was a packed sold out theater) was so much fun. Absolutley worth it.

For me, theaters are a really fun, relaxing, de-stressing experience. So if a movie looks fun, I'll go see it. D&D was the last thing I saw in the theater, but I saw it 4 times.

Any time LOTR is back in the theater, I will go.

really, if I enjoy a movie, I'd be happy to see it in the theater.

I also saw the D&D movie in the theater as my most recent.

Jurassic Park was awesome in the theater. It was playing on multiple screens in the theater I went to, so not only did the sound from our theater rumble through me at points (very effective when the T-Rex first comes), but there was a smaller pulse of vibrations from the sound in the theaters on either side that added to the experience (swear to god, it seemed like there were big dinosaurs running around just out of sight).

Star Wars: A New Hope - the giant star destroyer was mouth-dropping. The crawl, the music, the sound of the lightsabers, the scale of the Deathstar, all of that and more was shown to advantage on the big screen.

Once in college, they had a movie night at the student rec center. They put Jaws on a giant screen and they had people in the massive pools on inner tubes to watch. So anxiety-inducing in the most thrilling way.

The Batman
Fury Road and Furiosa
The LOTR trilogy

Haven’t seen on the big screen but would love to:
The Shining
Dark City
Point Break

I am really sad that I've never seen Nope on a big screen. It's such a gorgeous movie

I'd already seen Nope twice before, but I put it on ostensibly as a background thing while I did other stuff last week, and just got completely sucked in again and couldn't not give it my full attention again. Just a beautiful film.

Yes!
It just so good. And every time when "western" parts with a chaise kicks in I wish I've seen it in a dark movie theatre

I can't even remember the last movie I saw in the theater I wasn't disappointed with, because it's all blockbusters and generic animated movies. I mostly stopped going and go and see modern concert dance a few times a year at my local very low-budget opera house instead. No regrets.

I've been underwhelmed every time I've seen it on TV since then, but I saw Thor: Ragnarok in the theaters, and that final battle blown up on the big screen lives rent-free in my mind.

I tend to like "events" as it were-- vintage films that were originally screened before I was born, hosted films with guests, silent movies with live musical accompaniment, etc.

Seeing House of Wax (the original, duh!) and Dial M for Murder in 3D were both enjoyable.

Good action movies, basically.

I really, REALLY want to see Point Break on a big screen at some point, because I think it would be amazing.

Seeing The Dark Knight with my dad and brother was probably the best cinema experience I've ever had. My dad was a huge Batman fan when we were little which rubbed off on us, and I'll never forget how his face just lit up with every big scene. He passed earlier this year and I'm just really happy now that we got to see it together. He didn't stop talking about it for weeks.

The new Dune movies, for sure. I cannot even imagine experiencing them on anything other than a giant screen lol.

I love seeing movies in theaters. I like popcorn, i like comfy chairs, I like date night, but most importantly I LOVE having to put my other screens away and focus.

So basically anything I'm really interested in and gets good reviews.

Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Side of Dimensions, but that might be because I'm a huge Yu-Gi-Oh fan. Otherwise, I say D&D Honor Among Thieves has been one of the best as well.
