Yep, the US only learned about having the beach on TV in 1989, there was never anything on US TV that ever went there before that. Gillian's Island and Hawaii Five-O (1968) didn't feature beaches prominently. And I must have dreamt up the episodes on the beach in Batman (1966), The Brady Bunch, The Monkees, Happy Days, and Growing Pains.

Batman on the beach sounds like a fucking disaster, but considering which Batman ... that sounds like it probably also featured supervillains in ridiculous swimming costumes.
