I grew up in the 90s really into Doctor Who when its cultural standing was basically in a crater, past that crater, through the Earth's crust and near enough in the pits of hell. It's not just the Wilderness Years because there were no new episodes imo.

So even though I don't really feel exactly the same as this secret, I do have some sympathy for you OP. It's hard trying to untie those feelings of being made to feel odd with something you've loved for years suddenly being popular and/or having more visibility. I do think you have to accept this is the way it is and try not to let it get to you while also remembering that it's valid to feel those people in 2007 were awful.

(Though in my case I'd argue that in recent years Doctor Who seems to be sliding back toward being less of a thing with a broad audience, and more a bit of a nerd beacon again!)

I had a crush on a middle-aged actor on The Love Boat when I was in middle school.

You bet I kept that shit to myself!

I was even crushing on cartoon characters when I was around 5-6, so very much relate to keeping that shit to yourself lmao.

You basically described me getting into Hall and Oates post 80s/90s, lmao.

Then apparently 2007 came around and everyone thought it was awesome to hang out with Daryl Hall at his house.

There were Doctor Who New Adventures books. Sky Pirates, for example, was awesome. And I loved Bernice as a Companion. I wish they could have brought her to the reboot show, before it got Moffatted and Chibbed.
