COVID

(Anonymous) 2024-09-20 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
After successfully avoiding it all this time, it finally got me. And man it SUUUUUCKS. It's been six days and normally with any other illness I would be pretty much better by now but not this fucking thing. I have zero energy, have been sleeping like 12-13 hours a day, and almost passed out in the shower from how weak I am. I am starving all the time, but most food makes me sick, I have a headache that comes and goes and my ears keep popping constantly. I had an eczema flare up for the first couple days, which I haven't had in over 5 years, but that seems to be mostly gone now.

It makes me even madder than I already was at the people who act like it's not a big deal. It REALLY FUCKING SUCKS.

Damn, that sucks. Hope you get better soon.

I’m so sorry, nonnie ((hugs)) I hope you feel better soon!

Sending you hugs, nonny. I got caught by it for the second time a few weeks ago (first time was about two years ago) and I'd forgotten how cruddy it was. Muscle aches, prickly skin, fever, headache, dizzy, so hungry but all food just tasted like snot. I'm still not back to 100% yet, did some light gardening earlier and now feel like I need to sleep for at least 5 years.

Please be kind to yourself and stay hydrated even if you can't stomach food. If/when you have to go back to work take it slow and easy if possible. The fatigue can last for a good while even when the other main symptoms have gone, so don't push yourself.

My sympathies, OP. I had COVID a couple years ago and yeah, sounds pretty much like what you've got only I wasn't hungry. I didn't lose my sense of taste or smell, but food just didn't taste good to me and I struggled to eat because of a sore throat. Just slept all day, fever, chills and bodyaches. When people say it's not that bad or just basically just the flu, I want to punch them in the neck. Who enjoys the flu, you assholes? I felt like shit warmed over for a solid week, then another two weeks of being incredibly tired and still struggling to eat. COVID fucked with my tastebuds for months afterwards, and I got the period from hell, too.

People who say it's just basically the flu aren't entirely wrong about COVID, they're just wrong about how bad flu is! It kills people every year.

Exactly. It's also very dismissive even if it's not a fatal case. Just the regular old flu is bad enough. I don't like being sick for a week and feeling tired and achy all over. It settles into my chest and I cough for weeks and weeks afterwards. Who wouldn't want to skip that if they could?

It really, really depends the person, that's the problem. My own case was so mild I wouldn't even have known I had it if I hadn't found out I'd been exposed. I got it right in the middle of allergy season and the only real symptom I had was a stuffy nose, so I just thought it was my allergies acting up and didn't give it a second thought.

nayrt. This. I've had covid every winter for the past three years and it's always been incredibly mild. Barely any symptoms at all. If it weren't so contagious I wouldn't even take sick leave from work.

But on the other hand, a colleague of mine was out over a month because of it, and a friend's elderly mother died of it, so I'm not gonna go around telling people it's no big deal. Everyone is different.

Yeah, thirded. It was pretty mild for me. Well, low-grade unending fever suuuucks (I am pretty sure that I have another COVID right now (fast test says no but they are not that accurate), but I can't take time from work so oops for people I guess, at least I have my own office to be a hermit in).
And my aunt, well, died from it.
So it really really varies from person to person greatly

I'm sorry, that sucks. I've only had it the once that I know of and the first couple days were horrible, but I was really glad to be vaccinated, because without it it would've been worse. I had fever and chills and a headache and vertigo, but at first I thought it was really, really shitty (literally) food poisoning, because my body was determined that everything I'd ever ingested was gonna leave by the nearest exit ASAP.

I was really glad that I didn't lose my sense of smell, since apparently with covid that's not a temporary congestion thing, or even a tastebuds get wiped out thing like can happen with chemo, but actual brain damage.

Also I mostly felt better by day four or so but was still testing positive two weeks in. Still mad that paid sickleave is seen (by corporate shitheads) as a luxury and not a way to keep more people as safe and healthy as possible.

I hope you feel better soon and have no lasting issues, and that you find something with calories in that you can keep down. (hugs)
