Time travel question

(Anonymous) 2024-09-21 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
If you were able to travel back in time along your own personal timeline, ie you wake up in your younger body, which year would you choose and why?

Re: Time travel question

(Anonymous) 2024-09-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
1990. Just to experience the decade again. It was objectively just a better time, ya know.

You're answering the question of a troll pretending to be someone else.

2007. Right after I graduate high school. Would choose a different college and major. Would be good to be able to predict some major events to invest in (bitcoin!).

Investing in Bitcoin for cheap is the only reason I would travel back in time.

While I would love to be able to do things like see my grandfather again, those things are so far back I would have to relive parts of school and all my college years again, which I wouldn't want to do. I'm glad I'm past that stage of my life.

Ngl, my mind also immediately went to investing in companies like Biontech and Zoom pre-2020 lol

Yep! Like, would I love to be the crazy soothsayer warning people about Trump? Yes. But no one will believe me. Honestly, the only major event I'd try to stop is the Sandy Hook shooting. And hope I don't end up on trial for like...being an accessory.

Law school, second year, first internship. I want to experience that high again, remind myself of why I picked this field.

This is hard because I'd love a healthier body, but I was still in awful situations at the time that I would never want to repeat. I'm not even sure going back with the knowledge I have now would change anything.

I would like healthier body but I don't really miss the past and past me

Re: Time travel question

Hmmmm.

So, on the one hand, from a personal-history-of-my-life point of view, the right answer is 18 years old when I'm going off to college. Make better choices, have a better understanding of myself, start doing therapy and get on SSRIs much earlier.

However.... there seems something extremely fucked up and weird about going through college again with knowledge of the future and with my adult self? And having to deal with people who are mentally a couple decades less mature than me, who I have all of this future knowledge of, and so on. You know, the person I had a huge crush on but never said anything to - how the hell do you handle a situation like that? I feel like I would go insane trying to work all that stuff out and have a breakdown.

So I think the better answer is just, immediately post-college. About 23 or 24 or thereabouts.

I don't think I'd really want to fondly revisit any era of my life for sheer enjoyment. I would only do it if I was able to change the course of my life. Probably right around the time I started college, so that I could:

1) break up with my then-boyfriend
2) pursue a different field that was geared towards a stable, financially rewarding career
3) just avoid dating in general
4) try to watch my diet and general health better so I wouldn't have issues later

Nowhere, really. I'm not completely happy with everything in the now (who is?) but I like it enough that I wouldn't risk butterfly effect changing it by going back and doing something differently. If I put my current mind in my 18 year old body who knows what would change? Like am I going to find my current partner (someone I do not want to change) again in their teenage self and talk to them as a mental 35 year old? Wait around for them to be 35 again? Weird

I'll take the guaranteed "satisfactory" and stay put.

I mean if I could just wake up physically younger in the present day but keep my memories, mid-20s maybe? Right after one of my rare dentist visits so I wouldn't need to get a root canal pronto.

There's lots of stuff in my past I would change if I could, but knowing how it ended up doesn't mean I could change most of it, so I wouldn't want to actually time travel.

In my case I knew at the time that things were bad and would get worse and said so and it didn't help. Both my parents (various flavors of traumatized, mentally ill, and addicted) still continued to deteriorate physically and mentally and died horrible early deaths.

I wouldn't magically have insurance to get help with my own issues, either. I'd just know for sure rather than suspect that everything was gonna go to hell.

Maybe if seven year old me walked into my old living room with a giant file box of police reports, hospital discharge paperwork, two death certificates, and, idk, a modern smartphone still magically connected to 2024 wifi and said "hey, you guys need to work your shit out or it will get so, so much worse and also hey mom your dad just tried to kidnap and rape his paper delivery boy so the not airing dirty laundry's not working, I just poured your vodka down the sink again*, stop buying meth to lose weight please, and also dad I know the shingles and sting ray combo sucks ass but please throw away the OxyContin prescription before you start hearing voices" like a very small Dickens ghost it might've headed the worst off?

*I did this all the time as a kid and it changed nothing, but hey, force of habit.

I’d go back to when I was 27 and at a major crossroads in life. I’d choose the other path and live my dreams.

I shouldn't have gone to college. It was a terrible experience and it didn't help me get a good job anyway, but if I had tried to avoid it my parents would have made me go no matter what.
Also should not have gotten involved with my mean crazy ex one year later.

If I wake up and am just a passenger to watch the desicions I've already made probably none. Mayyyybe a year where my grandparents and mom are still alive.

If I wake up with all my knowledge and live my life going forward and can make different decisions? Shit id be going all the way back to 2nd or 3rd grade I think.

If I keep my memories, as far back as possible. Then I'm investing in Apple.
