Might be viewership bias speaking, though. Most of us frequent places where everyone is aware and see tons of the redundant messages. But most of us don't frequent places where people are unaware to see if anyone's saying that there.

I've definitely seen people have The Conversation with floods of newbies "interested in BDSM" after the Fifty Shades craze, for example. So it does happen sometimes.

Other actually useful examples I've seen: "yeah, this is not what military service is like," "this is NOT what actual war is like," "this is not what actual Japan is like, stop it you weebs"

Ofc none of these were cutesy "friendly reminder :)" on tumblr posts. So like context matters.
