Japanese snack boxes

Anybody have experience with Tokyotreat or Sakuraco? I’m thinking about ordering one but I’m not sure which to order and want opinions.

Not either of these, but I did Bokksu for a long while. I liked it a lot! If you have the money it's fun, they're all expensive obviously but you do get some cool stuff in them, and it's a good pick me up every month. If you live near any kind of foreign grocery store, though, they become less worth the money.

I currently do Bokksu and I think it's a decent deal, they have a gifting option so you can just gift yourself, say, 3 months, without having to worry about it renewing.

Seconding Bokksu being good but also the fact that they're really not worth it if you actually have a foreign grocery store nearby.

Whumptober or Kinktober?

(Anonymous) 2024-10-01 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Which do you enjoy more?

Combine them and you have my ultimate weakness

lmao +1

(but if I had to choose, Whumptober - I am very picky about kink and have broad tastes in whump)

Whump lite! No one dies, but shit goes down. Maybe some hurt/comfort ensues.

Love both very, very much. I guess kinktober edges out, though some years whumptober is better.

Agreed. But I have a migraine, and they always make me feel extra hot.

Horror movies

(Anonymous) 2024-10-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's October, so horror movie season for me. I have older favorites, of course, but I've been thinking about watching more newer horror movies (arbitrarily defined by me as 2010 or later).

Really enjoyed:
Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2010)
Happy Death Day (2017)
Crawl (2019)
Happy Death Day 2U (2019)
Freaky (2020)
Love and Monsters (2020)
The Black Phone (2021)

Liked well enough:
Final Destination 5 (2011)
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
Krampus (2015)
The Meg (2018)
The Hunt (2020)
Old (2021)
Scream VI (2023)

Meh:
Bag of Bones (2011)
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Knock at the Cabin (2023)

Disappointing to me:
Scream 4 (2011)
Halloween (2018)
Ready Or Not (2019)
Scream (2022)

Pretty awful:
Fantasy Island (2020)
Renfield (2023)

Definitely to be watched if I can find them:
You're Next (2011)
Cockneys Vs Zombies (2012)
The Final Girls (2015)
Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)

Maybe to be watched if I come across them:
The Woman in Black (2012)
What We Do in Shadows (2014)
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Train to Busan (2016)
Black Christmas (2019)
Escape Room (2019)
Slaxx (2020)
The Columnist (2021)
Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Werewolves Within (2021)
The Blackening (2023)

Anything else you think I'm missing from my lists of newer movies to be watched? (I don't really go for the A24 type horror films (Hereditary, Midsommar, X, The Witch, etc.). Of all their horror movies, only Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) seems like I might possibly enjoy watching it.) Anything I shouldn't have on my to-be-watched lists? Any of your own reviews of newer horror movies?

Strike Train to Busan off the 'maybe' list and put it on the 'MUST WATCH' list.

+100 to Train to Busan. It's a damn good movie and I am not a zombie fan. (Train to Busan 2 is hot garbage and I am really salty about it)

I love Last Night in Soho but I wouldn't call it horror though.

I love You're Next and Cockney's vs Zombies. I know YN is on Prime if you're Canadian, alas I don't think I've seen CvZ anywhere, I ended up DLing it and buying the DVD.

Do you live in Canada? If you do, Reitmans periodically does this thing where you can book an appointment at a store and the staff will bring you various things to try on and give you feedback on what works on you/what works together. I've done it a couple of times and it is surprisingly helpful.
