Re: What's the most money you've ever spent on a hobby?

I spend too much money on backpacking and camping gear. Did I need the fancy expensive Nemo sleeping pad when a cheaper version exists? No, but I wanted it and I got it and I love it. Do I need 4 different size packs? Again, no but I wanted them and they make me happy.

Backpacking gear is probably the only hobby where I get gear envy and always want the newest shiny thing. I don't really care with my other hobbies. Right now I keep window shopping sleeping quilts and backpacking tents.

Did I write this in my sleep? Hahaha I’m right there with you, nonny!
I got a Durston X-Mid Pro a few months ago that’s to die for! If you’re looking for top of the line and ultralight, Dyneeema is the way to go. I spent months comparing Z Packs and Durston and ultimately chose the Durston because the poles don’t block the entryways and because this year he introduced the option to have a Dyneema floor (but he still makes and sells the polysil option). The thing is insanely light and it’s an absolute palace.
I also got a new quilt this year that I really like, a Katabatic Flex 30. I’m not in love with it the way I am the tent but it’s perfect for me for now. I think I’d like to make a couple myself in the future at different temp ratings. But that’s far in the future and the Katabatic is great because it’s the right middle temp rating for the times and places I backpack.
