What are the weaknesses of every generation?
(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)My step-mother's father got a factory job right out of high school, got married, bought a house and had 3 kids before he was in his late 20s. He worked all his life for the same company, retired early, bought a condo in Florida where he and his wife snowbird it every winter and had a pension. And neither he nor my step-mother fully grasp that this will NEVER be a viable option for young people today, no matter how hard they work.
With Generation Z, I think their greatest weakness is not knowing how to research anything. If they have a question, they're more likely to ask the internet or ask ChatGPT. It's almost weird how allergic the average Gen Zer is to looking stuff up and figuring out a reputable source from one that isn't legit.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 04:22 am (UTC)(link)My Gen Z nephew explained tone indicators to me and I had to break the news that millennials did that, too. I bet Gen X got to it before us, too.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)Gen X: nihilism (everything sucks so why bother)
Millenials: infantilization (either too stupid/inexperienced to be useful or too busy being defensive at being accused of being too stupid/immature to do anything useful)
Gen Z: hubris (everyone is an unoriginal idiot except for them)
Gen Alpha: raised by above groups

(Anonymous) 2024-10-04 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)Young children grow to become teenagers then adults then retirees. They make the same mistakes and assumptions as the previous generation did when they were in the same stage of life, and pretend it's all new; that they're somehow seeing things clearer, that they are free from the foolish ideas of the past and the propaganda of the present, and that they are Right where others are Wrong.
Re: What are the weaknesses of every generation?
(Anonymous) 2024-10-05 09:42 am (UTC)(link)Generational theory is fucking stupid and has little to no basis in sociology. It's just baseless and judgemental stereotyping and oversimplification of people with very different backgrounds, experiences and thoughts (and also works with the premise that people don't change as they get older, which is just ridiculous).
