What are your least favorite popular fanon interpretations?

Abusive!Melkor in the Melkor/Sauron ship. It just does not feel true to the characters at all. To everyone else, sure. But to Sauron, no. And would Sauron put up with it? Heck, no.

Yes, yes, yes. He's smart. Not knowing Earth culture is not the same as not being smart. It was one line in one movie. Drives me up a wall.

Passive, weepy Dean Winchester during sex. Just doesn’t fit IMHO.

Yup. Agreed. And, like, I do read him as more sub in sexual situations. But sub does not automatically mean passive or weepy. It is like so many authors only see things in extremes.

I hate how fandom inevitably turns one charcter into a slim short blonde dramatic man, no matter where it starts.

The number of fics I've read with the throw-away line of Hannibal eating someone who just made a mistake. Like, no, he kills the rude. It's not rude to accidentally spill his wine.

You know he kills and eats people because he likes to, right? Yeah, there's some childhood trauma in there, but still. The rudeness is just an excuse. He pretty arbitrarily applies it, too. He has killed people that have gotten in his way. He has killed to make a point. He has killed to escape. He has killed to keep his secrets. He's interesting as hell and sometimes keeps to a code of conduct (one defined by him), but he is a violent and sadistic person. He likes to be in control, but he isn't always. I don't think he would often kill a person just because they made a mistake, but if that mistake pissed him off enough or if someone else pissed him off (someone he couldn't or wouldn't go after at the time) and that person who made a mistake was a convenient target, I could absolutely see it.

Yes, but someone making a mistake isn't a convenient target. They're someone he recently had contact with, who isn't in his way, who doesn't know his secret. They're a massive risk to kill for very little pay off. He isn't an idiot. Rudeness is unspeakably ugly to him, and there are a lot of rude people in the world for him to make beautiful that he doesn't need to take on the risk of going after a polite person who made a mistake. That would be rude.
