This reminds me of a 2000s fandom OC shipper who used to say she was possessive of the character she shipped her OC with and only approved of canon/oc ships with him for OCs she liked and would happily criticize OCs she didn't as Mary Sues despite having a past of being harassed for her OC being a Mary Sue (admittedly kinda true tho some of the reactions she got were too far).

I just remember feeling very disappointed/frustrated by her like idk "you should know better/understand how it feels". Like she did revamp her OC a lot but she seemed to learn the wrong lessons from her experience.

(Thats all I feel comfortable saying atm. I dont wanna reveal the fandom).

But the hypocrisy or just the idk the fact she was so okay with doing to others what was done to her because I had been on her side before the revamp feeling like people were really unnecessarily mean to her. To see her go "oh people were right to make fun of me" and do it to other OC creators after almost felt. Idk frustrating

aw, I like making OC/Canon ships with silly OCs, and I've seen quite a few people like your friend (almost turned like this, but got luck). I guess they just start to feel too self-aware and instead of leaning into it and chilling out, they compensate in doing to others what they're afraid of getting from others.

Yeah
Or they're convinced/fooled into thinking this is growth or maturity because they don't realize that what was done to them was cruel/wrong in the first place.

They see it all around being done by older people and instead of realizing "wow these adults are treating me badly, this is fucked up" they think they deserved it or it was right.

I wouldn't be surprised because in the 2000s fandom the anti-OC sentiment was especially strong.
