I try and have conversations with people online when I know 90% of the time people don't care, they just want to throw a statement out and run. Setting myself up for disappointment yet I still do it.

I do this, but I know I'm not going to change their mind. However, I can possibly sway people dropping by and reading the conversation who have no intention of participating themselves. I've adhered to this philosophy for a decade now, and it's been a rather useful tool/mindset to have.

I really like that.

For me I just enjoy the conversation and try and tell myself it is a bonus if anyone actually replies to take part.
