You know what? I would be perfectly okay with this...take if OP and others like them didn't comment on fandoms that have interracial pairings. I lost count of how many times they waltz in and declare their racism is everything except racism. I'm so sick of knowing what they really think while they insist that, "No, no! The pairing doesn't work because they have friend energy!"

It's so exhausting.

What about "this pairing doesn't work because this is an oppressor and an oppressed person, so the power dynamics make it problematic?"

DA

What about they're both from different oppressed groups and not by each other?

AYRT

Oh anon, we both know fandom would run the calculations to figure out which half of the pairing is more oppressed and so technically being exploited by the other half.

Unless the story is set during times of slavery or war internment camps or similar, it's really not that deep anymore and just an excuse for racism.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just a ship though, not an IRL relationship where someone is dealing with racist abuse. Unless it's something very loaded historically like a slave dynamic, the whole "this ship is problematic and bad" is just repackaged shipwar nonsense.

+infinity

People are not obligated to ship someone else's imaginary OTP, regardless of the races of the characters.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
An oldie but goodie reason people give when an interracial pairing shouldn't get together is, "They're like family!"

That's always a favorite!

You know, other people having preferences that do not align with yours does not necessarily mean that they are automatically racist.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
People against interracial relationships are rascist.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we talking about irl, or just not shipping them in fandom?

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Both.

Bit honestly, not liking a ship because you dont like the characters together is fine. Not liking a ship because the characters are different races and it bothers you, racism.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-12 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
People who make racially offensive statements about their preferences, with no decision to reflect on WHY they have such an aversion to something that applies to many people, are absolutely fucking racist.

But as we've established, this secret is just lame bait. In this case, it's not 100% clear if OP is racist or felt like riling folks up, but the two are not mutually exclusive.
