Idk if the image choice is intentional or just an unfortunate coincidence but no matter how hard you ship House/Wilson, both are very clearly shown to be heterosexual in canon.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
But a lot of the other examples on that page aren't.

That's the actual Heterosexual Life Partners trope page. It's meant to illustrate the trope of 'these two aren't a couple, but can be mistaken for one'.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I got that. But the secret is about ships that aren’t like House and Wilson so it’s weird that they didn’t crop the image or use literally any other artwork.

I mean, both are clearly shown to have relationships with women. At least one ep does imply House is bisexual.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Try again. I’m a hardcore House/Wilson shipper and they’re both explicitly heterosexual in canon.

yeah, keep telling yourself that.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
lol this is making me miss the fandom and the ship wars tbh

Do you know how TV tropes works? Just because the cover image is a correct example doesnt mean there aren't a lot of trope examples further down the site that fit with the secret.

Secret maker (but not the OP) here...

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
This is a comment secret, so the OP didn't choose this specific image, I did. I just screencapped the TVTropes page for "heterosexual life partners" so as to include a brief explanation of the trope as context for the secret. It wasn't meant to suggest that the characters pictured are a good choice for the trope - I'm not familiar enough with the fandom or the pairing, so I didn't know either way.

It wasn't meant to be a personal slight of any kind.

Cheers,

a secret maker

Secret comment OP here - thank you for making this secret. I actually don't think it's a bad picture choice at all because everyone except that ayrt above understand that this picture is just the screencap and not an isolated ship image.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I wish they'd change it to Platonic Life Partners. I see that used frequently already in fandom and real life.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried to upvote this comment.

So right. Plus, that's not gender-reliant. There are plenty of examples of people of different genders who are platonic life partners.

Different Anon here but, I always know when I've spent too much time on reddit when I try and up or downvote comments here XD

the trope name comes from the movie Dogma where Jay describes Silent Bob as his 'heterosexual life partner' and Bob nods emphatically.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I call my best friend my hetero life partner as a joke reference to this movie. We are both queer women.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Shhhhh pipe down with logic and facts. They’re not welcome here!

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PlatonicLifePartners

Platonic Life Partners are a related but separate trope.

nayrt

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 05:12 am (UTC)(link)

Honestly, I always thought the distinction between these two was fake. I should bring them to TRS, probably maybe. (I am probably not going to bring them to TRS, that's so much work...)

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
So people are basically sorting their fandoms under an incorrect trope on occasion?

Right? And I’ve never heard “heterosexual life partners” irl, while I’ve heard “platonic life partners” fairly often.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was my immediate thought, too. I look at Heterosexual Life Partners and I think about my parents, for instance

(Anonymous) 2024-10-15 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I love that very straight episode where House proposes to marry Wilson.

hehehehehe
