See, when I saw the story first a few days ago on local news (ye olde businesse segement) the lead was "candle controversy!" so I had to think real hard to guess what was so controversial about the image, and KKK was honestly not my first assumption. To me, it's obviously supposed to be a cut-out paper snowflake but done badly, like...there's no extra cuts, just a couple stupid circles. At worst I thought they had a Halloween ghost graphic that got reused and the "controversy" was they had some sort of Halloween/Chrismas mixup. The circles look like eyes, sure, but on a winter holiday candle it's still obvious it's a snowflake, just a really reallly really stupid one (look at the "folds," that would be a 10-sided snowflake and that's just wrong). I had to stretch to guess Klan and oof. Bingo.

Yeah, I immediately saw it as an embellished snowflake? I literally could not understand what people were making such a big deal about.

I wonder if it is more obvious to people that have to deal with the KKK irl. It is not unheard to see groups in their robes on corners holding protests or mini-rallies here, so it is an image that is pretty fresh in my mind.

I dunno, I'm not American and have never seen a kkk hood irl nor is it something I think about often, yet the first thing I thought as I scrolled and saw the picture on the secret was "what the fuck Is that? Cutesy kkk?". Only after a moment I saw the snowflake.
