That doesn't change the implication that violence is something they think about, which is what can be problematic when you read it. Sometimes or often doesn't matter to me here. And I didn't mean to imply at all that only teachers would get it. I meant to imply that there are things you can say to strangers and things you can't precisely because, as you said, the joke won't be understood the same way. And to some, it won't even sound like a joke at all. I agree that some comments are way over the top but I still think OP should have thought better about how to phrase their secret or whom to tell it to.
